Jan Sändig is a postdoctoral researcher in Peace and Conflict Studies. He is member of the INFRAGLOB project and co-coordinator of the Conflicts.Meanings.Transitions research network at the University of Bayreuth.

His research centers on social mobilization, protest, and violence in sub-Saharan Africa. Specifically, he has been studying the varied means, framings, dynamics, and outcomes of contentious politics from the local to the transnational arena.

Within INFRAGLOB, he currently examines how activists challenge Chinese mining projects in Guinea and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Additionally, he has been interested in ethnic and religious movements, particularly in Nigeria.

His research was published among other journals in World Development, Civil Wars, Third World Thematics, and the Journal of Global Security Studies.

After studying Political Science at Potsdam and Paris, he was researcher at the University of Tübingen for ten years and joined the University of Bayreuth in July 2020.
