Cinema Africa 2026: Four Days of Contemporary African Film in Bayreuth
22 January, 2026
From the 25th to 28th of January 2026, the Cluster of Excellence "Africa Multiple" at the University of Bayreuth will host the 17th edition of Cinema Africa at Cineplex Bayreuth. The festival, curated by Prof. Dr. Ute Fendler, once again brings current films and short films from across the African continent to Bayreuth and creates a vibrant space for cultural exchange and dialogue. All screenings begin daily at 8:00 pm.
Each evening, special guests will join the audience for discussions on the films’ themes and production processes, offering insights into contemporary African cinema and the contexts in which the films were created.
All films are presented in their original languages with English subtitles. Cinema Africa continues to be a central platform for encountering diverse cinematic perspectives from Africa and for fostering conversation between filmmakers, scholars, and the public.
