06.05.2025
On May 8 at 7pm, Kulturhaus Neuneinhalb will host an exclusive pre-screening of the first part of the new ARTE documentary “Südafrikas Weg aus der Apartheid – Teil 1: Suche nach Antworten.” The film will be shown in German with English subtitles and sheds light on the long-term consequences of apartheid and South Africa’s ongoing search for justice.
After the 52-minute screening, a panel discussion in English will follow with Cluster scholar Patricia Pinky Ndlovu-Gatsheni, filmmaker Thomas Blom, and a Q&A session with the audience. The event will be recorded and later made available on ARTE’s event media hub and the Cluster’s YouTube channel.
The compelling three-part documentary series “Free at Last: Unsolved Stories of Apartheid”, was produced by Dutch journalists
Misha Wessel and Thomas Blom, in close collaboration with award-winning South African director Xoliswa Sithole. It brings forward a deeply rooted South African perspective and gives voice to South Africans not only as victims but as empowered narrators. The series critically examines the portrayal of perpetrators and the lack of justice for apartheid-era crimes, striking a sensitive and powerful chord.
