Stefan Ouma: Africa in the Shadow of the Global Right
July 22, 2025

In his article “Im Schatten der globalen Rechten” published on 22 July 2025 in the taz, a German daily newspaper, Prof. Dr. Stefan Ouma, holder of the Chair of Economic Geography at the University of Bayreuth and member of the UBT Peace and Conflict Research Network, points out the increasing entanglements of the extreme right with states on the African continent. He identifies ideological currents, nostalgic utopian longings, growing Russian influence and the quest for resources as dangerous entanglements.
The essay sheds light on the African perspective and emphasizes the responsibility of African states in a globalized world to resolutely oppose the advance of the extreme right.
